Here they call it ‘covering the house’… the walls and the roof… finally we made it and with time running out to do windows, wires, water all before the winter.

Learning Grapes

Rahovec, West Kosovo…  Bedredin took us up into his vineyard and explained the types: smederevka, game, vranac, old hamburg, burgondvec… and also the intricacies of pruning and grafting.  Later he took us to his cellar and plied us with wine and raki, including a grape raki with honey and St John’s Wort…  amazing.

Ajvar Party

On Saturday Mary, Sabrije and Kadrije set to on the long process of preparing Ajvar.  It starts with barbecuing red peppers to soften them and to peal off the skin… it ends 8 hours later with a boiled down goo… so after all this labour don’t be surprised if it shows a high price tag in the stores… unsurpassably wonderful

Framing the Roof

Now it is late summer… Mefael and his team have been working too long and everyone is a little tired… the roof frame is far more complicated than we all thought…

Sitting on the top of the last concrete slab – to be the attic floor – Armend and Anita set to with blocks of woods and terracotta and imagined their own-built new home.
